Twilight Hawkers markets.....

Yesterday evening we caught the train (yes again!), that's twice in two weeks, more than in the last two years! Meeting up with Aimee after work we had dinner at the last of the Twilight Hawkers Markets for 2012/13 held every Friday Night during that period in Forrest Place the town centre. The  General Post Office building in the background is a splendid backdrop for the many events held here. The food was as multi cultural as the crowds eager to partake, everything from huge steaming pans of seafood jambalaya and chicken gumbo below....

.....to Indian cuisine, I saw no sign of '2 Fat Indians', there were however a few 'portly' customers :)

Who me.? Not sure if the lady on the Vietnamese stand was happy to see me...moving right along....!

Meanwhile the crew from El Asador were keeping the meat lovers happy... smokin'..!

Even though it was a slightly cooler evening, the very retro Delish Ice did a roaring trade.. from the cutest little powder blue caravan stand, definitely our favourite.....

and yes..that cute redhead was enjoying the tastes and sights also. Hope you enjoy something 'tasty' this weekend, have fun..take care and stay safe. p.s. late night, catch up today.....

  27. I just love markets like this. The food sounds absolutely yummy! When I'm in the Seattle area, we always go to the weekly farmers markets in the area - more fresh flowers, vegetables, and crafts there though.

  28. Looks like great fun, but I have to be careful at these places as I've got way to much "will" power (I WILL eat everything in sight) and not enough "won't" power.

I think that Vietnamese woman is wanted by the police and you took her picture! Uh oh.

  29. Oh, I forgot the reason the Vietnamese woman was wanted by the police: for Overcooking!

  34. How red is your hair? :)

In answer to your question: The Villages, which began some 30 years ago in a nowhere place in central Florida has become a huge complex of housing developments, commercial developments, golf courses and "home towns."

There are now something like 35,000 homes in The Villages, with over 80,000 residents. Miles and miles and miles of golf cart paths which are supposed to be for hikers, joggers and bikers, too, but the golf carts go too fast so it's dangerous out there on a bike.

The Villages, as I've said before, is a Disneyland for adults. The hometowns build structures so they look much older than they really are, usually emulating buildings from the late 1800s.

The first downtown, which is comprised of a square with a gazebo, a church, a movie theatre, lots of restaurants and other shops, is called Spanish Springs (and naturally is done in a Spanish motif). We visited there in 2003 and at that time it was the only "home town."

Since then, numerous new "villages" within The Villages have been built along with the 2nd hometown, known as Lake Sumter Landing. This is my favorite place because of the lake and the boardwalk and all the photo opportunities.

Just recently, construction started on the third hometown known as Brownwood. Brownwood's motif is the "old west." It opened for business last October but isn't close to being finished. At this point I don't like it as much as the other hometowns but I'll have to wait and see what it looks like when it is completed.

The Villages advertises all over the world and people come here from all over the world to retire. It's a plus 55 community. I find it fun, exciting and very depressing - a bunch of old folks trying to pretend they're young again. And there are more rules and restrictions than you can imagine.

So, it's always good to leave and go home! :)

  35. Gumbo and Jambalaya? That's from Louisiana, Cajun food! When I think of asador Argentina comes to mind, but I suppose it could be any Hispanic meat grill. One of the vendors seems to be saying that YOU better come get some.

Hey, note that the comment above mine is spam.

  42. Well which is a wealth of information with me.......I'm positive then the fact that tips cant be found iron-clad. Thank you for that info. My next real question is, does the Simply Swank Soldering Iron include an iron-clad tip? Many thanks!
