Landmarks and marks on the land!

If I had been here for this month's CDP theme day 'Landmark' this would have been my contribution. Above the Swan Bell Tower home to one of the largest sets of change ringing bells in the world was built to commemorate the new millennium. At a cost of $5.5 million it was deemed a wasteful and unnecessary expenditure, but has since become a hugely popular tourist attraction and landmark sitting alongside the Swan River. You know what's coming next I'm sure :) It seems ironic that this now familiar landmark will soon be dwarfed by the 'mark on the land' that is the future site of Elizabeth Quay, the cost of which makes $5.5 million a mere drop in the ocean that surrounds us.. a more wasteful and unnecessary expenditure I cannot imagine! Ahhh that felt good, nothing like an envigorating rant to start the week, happy Monday, take care and stay safe..

  5. A good rant over a project you don't like is a good thing for you. I do like the tower, though.

  12. You never know what will turn out to be a waste of money or become a huge tourist attraction, but if you don't try things and be a bit out there at times, you can end up with no tourists.

  13. The Arch cost about US$13.5 million in the 60s. it was worth it. I'd love to hear the carillon on your tower. Maybe a video with the sound?

  15. You will have to share the completion photo with us, Grace, and perhaps it will be better than expected. Perhaps it will be "iconic"

  16. The swan looks good, I love clear shapes. What I hate is waste of tax money, and it sure looks like one. And the one to come might be an even bigger waste..

    Wish you a fine week!

  23. I went to the website of this development. I hate developers! Hey, look there's a little bit of dirt. Let's put a complex/high rise/condos/mall/etc.....
