Trickle down..

Trickle down effect: the belief that additional wealth gained by the richest people in society will have a good economic effect on the lives of everyone because rich people will put the extra money into businesses, investments etc.. I'm sure many do while others will take it with them to the grave!

I was lucky enough to chat to Perth based visual artist Hosae while he was painting the mural here back during Public2015. Hosae, whose work 'explores the conflict between uncontrollable natural forces and the imagined permanence of human order' was working under an overly blue, extra hot sky.. way too hot for such a complicated, huge endeavour, but he was on an artistic mission, and although I didn't hang around that day to see the finished mural I did go back..

... albeit two years later :) to see the finished mural below, an astoundingly complex piece of work that has unfortunately also been victim to the tagging scourge that seems prevalent around Perth these days! Happy Tuesday, take care and stay safe..

  1. I didn't realize you were back so I missed a couple of days. I loved the photos from Sydney, it's always nice to see that wonderful bridge. The statue you posted yesterday is also very interesting. I wonder why there were no water birds. That is a strange thing. This mural is quite an accomplishment. There is so much to see, you could stand there for hours pondering it all. Welcome home...a bit related.

  3. Wow! Great work. It's too bad it was defaced by some thoughtless person.

  4. Like those 19th Century engravings of cities 'at a glance - bird's eye view'
    Intricate and involving

  6. What a fine looking mural. Too bad some idiot tagged it. Some people have no sense or respect. BTW, trickle down economics does not work. The most common use for excess wealth is invested in a stock market which only benefits other wealthy people with stock.

  10. This mural is very full and complex and would require a great deal of time observing it to do it justice.

  13. It looks like what's trickling down is sewage. Which is an apt description of trickle down economics. As previous visitors have mentioned, we tried that during the Reagan years and it was a big flop. And yet it rises again as a concept the new administration is promoting. I guess they hope that national memories are short. But I digress... Thanks for contributing to this week's Monday Mural.

  14. Love the mural. The trickle-down theory has never worked but was never meant to work; it was a scam from the beginning, a bit of rhetorical voodoo to fool the common folk into feeling good about getting screwed by the rich. That's why the rich just love to promote it!

  15. It's a lovely mural Grace. I also photographed it on my way home from up north one day (Scarborough beach road I think...) but haven't published it either, because it's lost in one of the photo files...
