Bottle cap palm tree..

I have heard that there is a story re the bottle cap palm tree next to the Edwardian Baroque fabulousness of His Majesty's Theatre on the corner of Hay and King Street in the city, some of those caps look like they have been there a very long time, and although I have Googled my finger off trying to find that story.. zero success! If any Perthites reading this can enlighten me I would appreciate and add in. Along the way I discovered that there is bottle cap palm tree art and also bottle tree palms.. could this be a reality melding of the two :) Do not concern yourselves about whether or not this is harming the tree, a taller and more healthy specimen would be hard to find. Happy Thursday, take care and stay safe..

  2. I have my doubts about art on trees. Same as that knitting works on trees. I don't like it. Nature itsself is beautiful, needs no human decorations....

  4. There are several "wishing trees" in England. These are tree stumps with coins driven into the cracks in the bark. The old belief was that pushing a coin into the tree would cure illness, stealing one of these coins would make the thief ill. Never seen one decorated with bottle tops though.

  5. That is a new one to me! I've seen a lot of trees with shoes tied to them but, never one with bottle caps on it. Interesting! It makes me wonder how that ever started too.

  6. I like it, how they covered the tree in bottle caps, I have to wonder what it would've been like with the original colours on them.

  7. As your previous commenters have said, "I dunno, either." Interesting, though. Maybe there's a bottle cap club in Perth and whenever they have a coke or beer, they have to nail the cap to the tree. Nah, that would be too silly. Republicans in the USA might do that but not sane people.

  8. Nice shots and an interesting tree. Humans don't seem to be disposed to leaving well enough alone, do they?

  9. Interesting, I never heard of anything like that. I wonder what the purpose is.

  10. Trees should be left alone. They're beautiful without adornment.

  11. Look forward to hearing what you find out about these stately, old trees.

  12. Isn't that funny. I wonder who started it. Obviously you have tried to find out.

  13. An ongoing art installation project. Why only that palm tree and not others? A bit like a shoe tree, covered in shoes.... sort of a "just because" reasoning.

  14. I just love the things we ferret out on these daily photo sites. Wonder if the bottle caps are nailed on. Do you know?
